Title: National HIV Strategic Plan
Abstract: The adult HIV prevalence in Jamaica was 1.7% in 2011 with an estimated 32,000 persons living with HIV (PLHIV) (UNAIDS 2010, Table 1). Approximately one half of these persons were unaware that they were infected with HIV. Over the past decade UNAIDS assessed that there was a 25% decline in new HIV
infections in Jamaica. However, as many as 2,100 Jamaicans are estimated to become newly HIV infected each year and AIDS remains a leading cause of death among adults 15-49 years with over 500 reported deaths due to AIDS in 2010.
